For over 100 years girls have received a high quality, academic education at Shrewsbury High School. Our public examination results speak for themselves with average pass rates at A level of 95% over the last three years and 96% at grades A-C at GCSE. Staff are dedicated and students are lively and well-motivated.
Each year almost 100% of the Upper Sixth girls leave with the exam grades they need for their chosen course in higher education. This reflects a well developed system of pastoral care and the careers guidance which heightens girls' awareness of their strengths and weaknesses.
The list of opportunities for girls to develop their talents and interests beyond the intellectual is long: choirs, orchestra, amnesty, rowing, community service, debating, public speaking, Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, work experience, drama .... to name but a few. There is a broad range of sports: girls regularly reach county level. Each form holds a fund-raising event for charity at least once a year. In the last two years the school has gained a purpose built performing arts studio, a specialist nursery for three year olds and a new library/resources centre.
Overall, girls leave us well equipped to face the rigours of the outside world, having thoroughly enjoyed their years at school.
As a member of the Girls' Public Day School Trust, we are able to keep the fees to a very moderate level. The school is centrally located in Shrewsbury on a south facing site sloping down to the River Severn. There is easy access by both bus and train.
